Mobile phones (Integrity)
For my Net Gen project my group will be discussing the integrity of mobile phones which is basically the digital citizenship of them. Phones have gone from those giant black bricks almost with the long antennas to pocket size and even touch screen. With more sophisticated features and operating systems, they have seemed more glitchy than ever with software bugs, usually discovered just moments after they are purchased. Mobile phones are now becoming sophisticated smart phones that provide services beyond basic telephone use. Such as supporting third-party applications. Such third-party applications may be security crucial, such as mobile banking, or may be untrusted applications, such as downloading games. It appears that as the generation of cell phones grows, the integrity of these amazing mobile devices slows. We are now able to do so much on phones that most do not even need a computer anymore! I can search the web for some clothes, type in a spanish translation, play a game, surf songs, and text all in the matter of seconds apart all thanks to my mobile device! Honestly, in my opinion, the few glitches phones have here or there are worth it for the capability it gives me in my everyday life.

Tapscott chapter 5
Today technology has allowed students to advance in classes and school. Now there are more students attending college, but also more high school drop outs. According to the chapter there was a 69.9% graduation rate for all students. 49.3% of Native Americans graduated high school, 53.4% of Blacks, 57.8% Hispanic, with 76.2% of whites, and finally 80.2% of asians graduated high school. This clearly shows there is a difference in ethnicity and graduation rate. The sad thing is that most dropouts could have graduated, they just thought the classes were boring and not interesting. Being Net Geners of today classes are behind in technology and what students today find interesting, most classrooms reject the possibility for fun and entertaining learning. It is like my little brother's leapfrog, he likes it because it has games, but what he doesn't realize is he is learning everytime he uses it. Why is it that classes can not incorporate fun learning for students today like Leapfrog provides for my little brother? Students today are the digital age. They require new abilities to succeed. Why learn with pencil and paper when they can open a laptop and learn more in an hour than they could in three class periods?

8 Net Gen Norms
The eight net gen norms are freedom, customization, scrutiny, integrity, collaboration, entertainment, speed, and finally innovation. All of these combined have set up how today's generations have used technology and why. The first norm, freedom, is what
allows adults now to not settle. Most only stay with one job for maybe two and a half years. The internet and computer have allowed multiple oppurtunities to open up and leave the workforce a place where a person does not have to settle for some boring job they hate to go to the rest of their life; they can explore all their job possibilities and settle on one the really do enjoy and will enjoy in ten years.
The second net gen, customization, is all about taking the products users now have today and making it their own and fitting them. Whether it is with a phone, computer, i pod, television, or many other products; it seems that today almost anything can be suited to you. For example, my i phone is attached at my hips 24/7. I have it customized to my personal taste with all kinds of apps and gadgets so I never want to put it down. My parents make jokes all the time that I could not live with out my phone and their right; it shows a part of me and what I like to make my life easier and make me happy.
The third net gen is scrutiny. Scrutiny is all about the ability to differ from fact and fiction. The younger generations have grown up around ads, spam, pop ups, and much more lies that they can tell when they are being lied to most of the time. The older generations haven't been around all these things as long so a lot of times, for lack of better words, they are gullible. The Net Generation have learned to be skeptical when online.
The fourth net gen, integrity, the Net Generation has been exposed to all sorts of scientific and medical information that previous generations were not able to receive then. They aren't affected by diseases like tourettes given in the example in the chapter.
The fifth net gen, collaboration, is the quality that the Net Generation has exceeded in. With chat groups, emails, shared file groups, and more they have grown up knowing how to influence others by using web based resources and more. They love to communicate and contact whomever will listen, which for businesses is a huge advantage.
The sixth net gen, entertainment, is the funnest and probably easiest for today's generation to do. Today people have comibined work and play and combined them. There are so many ways to enjoy yourself on line now; with IM, games, facebook, etc. its hard not to get distracted during your work.
The seventh net gen, speed, has changed drastically. from dial up to now getting online in seconds is amazing. People today get frustrated if their internet is slower than usual and doesn't show instantly. The faster devices work, the faster things can be done and the more can be done.
Finally, the eighth net gen is innovation; what is to come. technology and devices are improved at dramatic rates. The next big thing can be considered old and outdated in a year. I know that my i phone 4 is great, I love it! I also know that I will be sick of it and want the next big thing that comes out eventually. With the world developing so quickly today the Net Generation has to be able to keep up with it all.

Importance of Deadlines
Meeting deadlines is a vital necessity in order to achieve in business and education. If you do not complete assignments in school not only will your grades suffer, but your work ethic will as well. The first step to succeeding in life is through school and education, so by not completing assignments you are risking your future! Your boss gives you a presentation to work on for the next staff meeting; instead of completing it and being prepared you decide its not more important than hanging out with you buddies, next week roles around and you are not prepared. Not only do you look silly, but your boss is mad because you did not do what he told you to do. Having a strong work ethic is what will lead you to the top in your career and education. Your boss has his own family and career to worry about where he does not have the time or care to babysit you and make sure you are doing what you are expected to do. Chances are you will just simply let go and replaced with someone who completes tasks on time. We are not in kindergarten anymore where our homework is taking naps; It is time to grow up and be responsible! Others depend on you!

Accepting Criticism
This Wiki project has a big to do list and at times may be over whelming. So maybe while your working vigorously on your Wiki, you forget an important aspect that could really help enhance your page or you forgot an important citation; People can write to you giving you a heads up or a little tip that they did that really helped them with their page. The important thing to remember is that their criticism is to help you! They really are not giving you criticism to make you feel bad about your work, but rather they are trying to improve your Wiki for the benefit for you and whoever views that as well.
If you are the person giving criticism there are a few things you should remember: First of all, you are trying to be helpful, not mean. Second, do not just give useless advice because you have to comment (make sure your giving criticism that they really could use.) Third, have experience with the advice you are giving! Finally, make sure you advice actually works. Do not just give out the name to some website that you heard is helpful and actually gives that persons computer a virus.

Using Wiki to Communicate
There are multiple ways to use wiki to communicate. You can share, collaborate, and edit all on the same project! Whether you right next to one another or separated by oceans, Wiki allows you to communicate it all. The first step is to add a page where you and the other members you send requests to will be able to add or take away from the information on your page you have set off. In a way wiki is like a Microsoft Word Document: You can edit the information however you want and save it as you go along. The only difference however is that its shared with other members as well. So in a way it is like a shared Google document! The only bad thing about Wiki through communication however though is that you cannot edit information from multiple places at once. When one person saves the information whatever somebody was working on at that time is automatically removed. Although this is only one down fall of Wiki for communication, it can become a huge problem when working on a major part of information. Do not let that stop you from using such a great communication tool to your advantage though!
